Sheffield Uni

Sheffield University Nanoscience and Technology Centre - The Nanoscience and Technology Centre at the University of Sheffield is a purpose built £6.6 million complex, fully equipped (>£10 million) clean-room for the production of state-of-the-art semiconductor epitaxy and device fabrication using III-V semiconductors. It is home to the internationally known EPSRC National Centre for III-V Technologies. The Centre provides the ideal environment for collaborative R&D, offering expertise in both MBE and MOCVD epitaxy, comprehensive wafer characterization, advanced technologies for device fabrication, and the provision of custom optoelectronic and electronic devices. Of particular importance to Defence related research is the epitaxial capability for antimonides, nitrides, and semiconductor nanostructures (QDIPs and QWIPs) enabling optoelectronic devices across a range of wavelengths from the UV to far-IR. Our mission is to provide collaborative access to world class expertise and facilities, thus enabling top-rate scientific research; currently the University is involved in several MoD funded projects. Spectral Line Systems

Spectral Line Systems Ltd - specialises in the design and manufacture of high spectral purity signal sources and sub-systems for professional markets in radar, communications, instrumentation and research. The Company was formed in 1990 and is now well established as a reliable supplier for defence projects and other demanding applications.

Almost all of our products are designed to meet customers' exact requirements with regard to operating parameters and packaging. We offer this service regardless of whether the order is for a one-off or for a substantial production run. Although we have few standard products we have a large library of proven designs, which is constantly being expanded by private venture research and development work. In response to a specification we are able to draw upon this stock to provide an efficient route to meeting the requirement.

Designing for reliable and cost effective production is an important part of our business. We manufacture all of our products in-house, production runs varying from small batches to several hundred.

In addition to the core business of Microwave and RF Sources and Sub-Systems, we are always pleased to consider other work utilising our experience in general microwave, RF and analogue engineering.

WFS

www.wirelessfibre.co.uk

WFS

WFS - is the world’s leading developer of through-water and through-ground electromagnetic communications and sensing products. With over 50 patent applications filed in Europe and North America, our revolutionary products deliver cost savings and new capabilities to the Homeland Security & Defence, Oil & Gas and Environmental & Industrial industries.

Founded in 2003, WFS launched the world’s first commercially available underwater Radio Modem, Seatext®, in 2006. The same year, the company was announced as the Overall Winner of the UK MoD’s top innovation award. WFS’s Broadband Data Link, Seatooth®, was launched in January 2007 and was followed later that year by a launch of the world’s first dual technology Radio Acoustic Modem, RAM-300.

WFS’s technology is revolutionising control and communications in underwater and underground environments. Underwater Radio Frequency (RF) technology has the distinct advantage that it will operate in adverse water conditions, is unaffected by acoustic noise, is free from multipathing problems and that the Doppler effects are minimal. Critically, WFS’s products support data transmission across the water/air and ground/air boundaries, penetrating the surf zone, ice, harbour walls, and hitherto impenetrable materials.

WFS has developed its latest through-ground products, Terratext® and Terratooth®, with the help of SEAS DTC funding and these are currently undergoing a series of trials and demonstrations. Both products will be on show at the DTC Conference. Terratooth will demonstrate broadband video streaming.
